{"id":12224,"date":"2024-02-12T20:21:09","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T20:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mindsforcommunity.org\/12224\/"},"modified":"2025-05-10T15:01:05","modified_gmt":"2025-05-10T15:01:05","slug":"childrens-stubbornness-the-most-important-causes-and-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mindsforcommunity.org\/en\/12224\/","title":{"rendered":"Children&#8217;s stubbornness&#8230;the most important causes and solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Child stubbornness is a problem that most families suffer from, but it is not insurmountable when understanding its causes, what is positive and negative about it, and the correct dealing with the child so that it remains at its positive level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Two experts specializing in psychological counseling and behavior modification provide 13 solutions to this problem so that it can pass safely, as well as what a family should do if their child does not respond to these solutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Why &#8220;excessive stubbornness<\/strong>&#8220;?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Family relations and mental health consultant, Dr. Ahmed Allam, describes stubbornness in children as \u201cinnate behavior\u201d by which they try to express themselves and rely on them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He warns against stubbornness turning into \u201crepetitive and excessive,\u201d which represents a real problem that must be stopped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He lists the causes of excessive stubbornness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">The child&#8217;s attempt to attract the attention of parents when there are other children present.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">The child was subjected to \u201cmarginalization\u201d from the family.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Seeking more attention.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Being subjected to excessive punishment or violence.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Excessive pampering.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Labeling the child as \u201cstubborn\u201d and repeating that description in front of him.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">The presence of marital problems within the family prompts the child to adopt \u201cunconscious defensive behavior.\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">The child\u2019s excessive playing of \u201celectronic games\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Dr. Lamis Makkawi, behavioral psychiatry consultant at Ain Shams University in Egypt, draws attention to the existence of two types of stubbornness, one of which is \u201cpositive\u201d and the other is \u201cnegative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">She explains, \u201cAll children experience positive stubbornness from the age of approximately two years,\u201d as the child begins to form his identity and self, and rejects most orders and requests from the mother.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In this case, \u201cthe family must encourage the child to make his own decisions, even if they are simple, and then the stage will pass peacefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">However, if families challenge the child and diminish his personality at that stage, \u201csigns of anxiety will appear in him, such as stuttering, nail biting, and bedwetting,\u201d the psychological consultant warns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These signs represent a \u201cstate of physical distress\u201d as a result of pressure on the child, and may cause the emergence of the second negative type of stubbornness, which is \u201crebellious or pathological,\u201d according to her description.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lamis Makkawi points out 7 solutions for dealing with a stubborn child, which are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Parents\u2019 interest in their behavior in front of their children; Because it reflects on them.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Do not describe children with \u201cbad qualities\u201d while modifying their behavior, such as telling him that you are a \u201cstubborn child\u201d or \u201cimpolite.\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Finding an \u201calternative solution\u201d when a child\u2019s request is rejected.
