The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Friday that obstacles imposed on relief access have weakened the ability of humanitarian actors to reach people in need throughout the Gaza Strip.
In its periodic update on the situation in Gaza, the office reported that since March 1, the Israeli authorities have prevented 30% of humanitarian aid missions to northern Gaza and 10% of missions to the south of the Strip.
The office warned that the blockade imposed on Gaza, including closed crossings, and the lack of water and electricity, are key elements of the major humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.
He noted that coupled with extensive Israeli ground and air operations, the blockade has weakened the ability of humanitarian actors to ensure a reliable and predictable supply chain and timely delivery of humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
More escalation and losses
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated in its statement issued today, Friday, that there are still reports of intense Israeli bombing and ground operations, as well as violent fighting between the Israeli occupation forces and the Palestinian resistance in most parts of the Gaza Strip, which led to more civilian casualties, displacement, and the destruction of homes and other things. of civil infrastructure.
He said that between the afternoon of March 27 and midday of March 29, 133 Palestinians were killed and 203 Palestinians were injured, including 71 killed and 112 wounded in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
He added that since October 7, at least 32,623 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 75,092 Palestinians have been injured, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
The office indicated that reports continued to be received of the killing of journalists and media workers in Gaza. He said that reports stated that a Palestinian journalist was killed along with her husband and children when a house was bombed in Rafah on March 26, and that a Palestinian journalist was shot dead in Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on March28.
