I am deeply concerned about the ongoing blockade imposed on Al Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, since May 19. Inside the besieged hospital there is a medical team consisting of 148 people, in addition to 22 patients, all of whom cannot leave.
On May 20, snipers opened fire on the hospital and artillery shells hit the fifth floor. This morning, the hospital was subjected to heavy fire with live ammunition, causing damage to much of the infrastructure and important equipment.
Hospitals are places of treatment, not battlefields. Therefore, we call for urgent protection for the entire hospital staff, patients and civilians. We also demand secure humanitarian access to Gaza and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
